If I was to travel in a straight line through space, what is the probability of hitting something?

If I travel at infinite speed in a random direction through space, what is the probability that I hit something?

Ignoring any crazy physics that make it impossible to do this. Basically, how full is space.|||I think the odds are pretty good. I would have to do the calculation but here is the assumption you can make to do it. You can assume that stars are the objects that you will hit and most of the stars are pretty much like the sun. So there are about 100Billion stars per galaxy and there are about 100Billion galaxies. And they are pretty much uniformly distributed out to a radial distance of about 13 Billion light years (or double that to account for the fact that they are moving away). You just have to look up what the radius of the sun is.

This will be a pretty good approximation for the odds.|||Think about your question. At infinite speed you will go through the entire known universe in zero time and continue to other parts, and the extent of those are unknown.

I think the probability is very close to unity that you will hit something within the known universe, let alone the unknown parts.

Of course you have to define "hit". The universe has lots of gas clouds of varying density. Those would be the highest probability for you to hit.

.|||You would chart your course first, just as you do on the ocean, and believe me it is possible.|||first of all infinite speed is the term to be think about.... and if it possible then i think you can panitrate any object in the space what you hit... but still possibility is there so what i said is 100%|||i think nearing 1.

you know why?

you will end up getting up nowhere because of the infinite curvature of space time which would develop around you because of the changes in the mass as per relatvity ( the mass would go up to infinity).

i do allow you for infinite speed travel, but that curvature would ever suck up things to itself ( just like a very great black hole ). you would hit things before you knew it.
